Job mission

As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, your primary mission will be to architect and maintain robust, scalable, performant, and cost-effective data infrastructure, to serve as the backbone for our data-driven initiatives, and empower our internal teams to operate autonomously and efficiently.

About Team

We are a small, recently formed Platform team (4 engineers) in charge of maintaining data pipelines, managing databases, and enabling access to relevant datasets to users. Our main stakeholders are other teams within the Development department. We think of ourselves as the enablers for the other internal teams, and we strive to treat our Data Platform as a product. Hence we value a product mindset, with the ability to understand and clearly and transparently discuss both technical and business-related challenges, within and outside of our team. We also value autonomy and an ability to work in self-organising fashion.

Job responsibilities

  • DataOps and Observability Management: Implement and oversee end-to-end data lifecycle processes to ensure data quality, integrity, and availability. Integrate tooling for monitoring, logging, and alerting to maintain data platform reliability and gain insights into its health at every stage—ingestion, transformation, storage, and distribution
  • Data Pipeline Coordination: Architect and manage data pipelines for seamless data flow
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Serve as the go-to technical resource for internal teams, including ML Engineers and Data Analysts, to solve data-related challenges and meet their data infrastructure requirements.
  • Performance and Scalability: Monitor the data platform to optimise its performance and resource utilisation. Implement scalability features to meet growing data demands.
  • Data Source Integration: Design and implement seamless integrations with various data sources to ensure efficient data collection, processing, and availability.

Job requirements

  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Data platform architecture and big data technologies
    • programming languages such as Golang, Python
    • relational and columnar databases (e.g. Postgres, Druid, BigQuery)
    • distributed event streaming and storage (e.g. Kafka)
    • observability stacks (e.g. Grafana)
    • cloud data platforms (e.g Google Cloud Platform)
    • orchestration and provisioning tools (e.g. Terraform, Nomad, Ansible)
  • Methodological Skills:
    • Solid understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD for data pipelines, and an observability mindset
    • System-level thinking
    • Ability to reason about performance implications on code and infrastructure levels, while taking cost in account
    • Ability to document complex systems and behaviours for both technical and business audiences
  • Qualifications:
    • 5 or more years of experience in software engineering, preferably using Golang
    • 1 or more years of experience in data platform engineering
