As a FSQ Manager, you will be an integral part of our Quality & Regulation team, focusing on ensuring food safety and quality within our upstream cell culture and bioprocessing operations. You will leverage a background in the pharmaceutical and/or biologics industries to adapt to relevant food regulations and maintain our high standards of food safety.

At GOURMEY, you will report directly to our Head of Quality & Regulation, Brian Chun, ensuring food safety and quality in our operations. You’ll work closely with our R&D, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to uphold compliance with global food standards while fostering a practical, quality-first mindset. You will also be expected to regularly support our production teams on the production floor.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Develop, maintain, and implement GOURMEY’s Food Safety Plans and HACCP programs, ensuring GMPs and preventive controls are current and effective.
  • Serve as a Food Safety Team Leader and/or Site Quality Assurance Manager for internal manufacturing and R&D pilot processing.
  • Train teams on aseptic techniques, sanitation verification, environmental monitoring, and other food safety practices.
  • Monitor and address risks in R&D, lab, and production environments, applying practical and balanced food GMP compliance strategies.
  • Evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes and facility designs to meet food safety and GMP standards, integrating pharmaceutical techniques where beneficial.
  • Support the development and implementation of QA programs for GOURMEY’s Food Safety Quality Management System (FSQMS).
  • Investigate quality deviations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct hygienic design reviews and integrate Quality by Design (QbD) principles into product and process development.
  • Manage supplier review programs, including risk assessments, audits, and compliance documentation.
  • Analyze lab data, adjust sampling plans and specifications, and provide data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
  • Track KPIs, lead quality improvement initiatives, and collaborate on cross-functional process enhancements.
  • Address customer complaints and nonconformances, leading root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Maintain and manage electronic systems for food safety and quality assurance.

What about you?

  • B.S. or M.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in food safety and quality assurance, including aseptic processing
  • 4+ years as the accountable manager of food safety programs under US (21 CFR 117) or EU (Regulation (EC) No 852/2004) standards.
  • HACCP certified
  • PCQI certified (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual)
  • GFSI practitioner certification (FSSC 22000, SQF, or BRC)
  • Expertise in food GMPs, HACCP, microbiology, and environmental monitoring programs
  • Strong knowledge of US (FDA/USDA) and EU regulations, GFSI schemes (FSSC 22000 is preferred), and associated cGMPs
  • Proven ability to evaluate and streamline processes to meet safety standards efficiently
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting and utilizing complex data
  • Effective communicator, comfortable collaborating across teams and with external partners
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); French or additional languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
