As the Director, Strategic Research the work you and your team do will act as a blueprint for Clio’s continued success in the rapidly changing world of legal tech.

As the most senior research leader at Clio, you will work hands-on with your team as a builder and play a crucial role by aligning the research demands with Clio’s strategy and cross-functional initiatives. You are a subject matter expert responsible for applying qualitative and quantitative techniques, interpreting data and producing substantiated recommendations supporting business objectives.

You will guide your team in making the right technical trade-offs to ensure that they focus on the most critical projects, operate with a proactive attitude to move quickly and have a positive impact across numerous GTM and Product areas.

Reporting to VP BizOps, you will have an influential voice with our senior executives and be responsible for driving strong inputs that impact strategic decision-making across the business while collaborating with key stakeholders within the C-team, GTM and Product.

This role will:

  • Drive a stream of thought leadership on behalf of Clio, led by BizOps leadership for the Legal Trends Report

  • Build and scale a world-class and strategic customer and marketing research team

  • Guide researchers through their professional development

  • Lead and facilitate efficient cross-functional collaboration, leveraging a diverse set of research processes, models, and frameworks as necessary

  • Create market, customer and product insights from qualitative and quantitative data to validate hypotheses, set KPIs, and inform decisions

  • Manage the end-to-end research process utilizing a wide range of internal and external research methods and partners while managing a budget

  • Navigate and influence senior leaders across various functions to inform and align strategies and drive action to improve business performance

  • Be an active participant and contributor on the Business Operations Leadership Team

  • Present research findings to senior leadership

You will have:

  • Experience leading a research team for a SaaS or technology company

  • Familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies with especially deep survey research skills, from survey conception and stakeholder management to analysis and reporting

  • Experience with a wide array of new product, brand, advertising and customer segmentation research methodologies

  • Advanced storytelling and presentation skills; ability to translate complex concepts and methodologies into easily understood language

  • Ability to apply insights to long-term strategic business issues as well as day-to-day business challenges

  • Highly motivated, results-driven person, who works effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with a strong ability to mentor team members

Nice to have:

  • Hands-on experience within the marketing research and consumer insights industry, collecting and analyzing data, reporting and presenting findings within the technology industry

  • Advanced analytical skills, including experience with statistical modelling and the ability to integrate disparate data sources

  • Quantitative modelling and strategic visualization, SQL and other data capabilities are helpful.

  • The expected salary range* for similar roles within Clio is: $152,000 to $228,000 CAD

* Please note that the expected new hire salary range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Clio. Our salary bands are designed to reflect the range of skills and experience needed for the position and to allow room for growth at Clio. For experienced individuals, we typically hire at or around the midpoint of the band. The top portion of the salary band is reserved for employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at Clio. Those who are new to the role may join below the midpoint and develop their skills over time. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
